Agreed! Especially a slender mongoose... they usually just run off 0*\

Thanks for the dates, Gavin \O

Will patiently await your other posts :-) Will have to wait before putting them on the sighting thread anyway until you've done them here.
But thanks for offering ^Q^

A mean little kitty

After having been in the Kgalagadi for about two weeks at this stage, we considered ourselves to be pretty clued up as to whether or not there was a storm brewing. :-)

And tonight, looking at the horizon to the south east, we were sure we were in for some more fun and games, so we decided to hot foot it back to camp before the storm arrived.

Image

We did however, pause for a moment to admire this jackal on the side of the road

Image

Just as we were about to turn into the Rooiputs campsite we saw a car stopped at the access road.

The reason.

This stunning African wild cat, looking as if butter would not melt in its mouth lol

Image

Or not!!!

Image

Image

Looking at the patterns in it’s coat it appeared as if it’s face was mirrored on it’s legs and chest. Quite weird

It wasn’t long before the cat turned and disappeared into the thicket behind it

Image

Once back in camp we realised that we were wrong about the storm as it appeared to have missed us, and all it had done was to provide us with a really special sunset

Image

A very happy bunny

And his SO enjoyed a special evening back in Rooiputs that evening

Along with a few of the local critters

Brotherly love

Friday 6 January dawned and we set off early northwards towards Kij Kij .

It was going to be a really special day. :-)

Early morning sightings included a porcupine and an African Wild Cat whilst the light was still too poor to get any decent photos.

About a kilometre before the intersection, we met up with this male lion walking purposefully towards the waterhole.
We followed him as he strode up the riverbed

Image

Once we got closer we noticed that there was another lion waiting and contact calling just before the Lower Dune road.

Image

Wanting to see what they would do when they met, I decided to go ahead and wait, positioning the bakkie in a good spot.
We were not disappointed with the outcome.

O/\ O/\ O/\

Talk about brotherly love.

Image

After the prolonged greeting, the pair decided to drink from a puddle of water right next to our car
Our positioning could not have been better

Image

They were so close to us that we could hear them breathing as they drank

Image

Image

After partially slating their thirst, they marched off hand in hand past the Kij Kij waterhole to the natural waterhole/dam just north of Kij Kij

Image

Picture perfect poses as they drank at the natural water hole

We continued to follow them as they carried on north up the riverbed
