What else will we find?
Our plan for the morning, ultimately, after driving up to Melkvlei, was to head over the Lower Dune Road and to eventually go back to camp via Twee Rivieren
The Dune Road locals were out and about
A noisy Southern Black Korhaan was on the side of the road
And a shy Steenbok getting its mineral fix for the morning from the salts in the road
We got to the Auob, and as it was still quite early, we went north towards Kamqua
Our first sighting once on the Auob side was of a pair of thick- knees hiding themselves, and their chicks under a bush.
I wonder why they seem so much more interesting in the Kgalagadi as opposed to back home in Cape Town
At Rooibrak we spotted yet another flat lion
Leaving him to slumber on, we went up as far as Kamqua, looked at the empty hyena den, stretched our legs at the picnic site and turned around.
Just past Kamfersboom, a couple of cars on the side of the road heightened our awareness
On the far side of the riverbed, three cheetah, probably the same trio we had seen the other day had made another springbok kill, and were enjoying the fruits of their mother’s labour under a tree.
Far away pictures with the subject in the shade
Still a special sighting though
As we carried on after leaving the cheetah, two more flat lions were under a tree at Houmoed,
