Thanks everyone for all the comments on this stunning lion sighting.

Only problem, the sighting was not over yet, so I am about to bombard you with a whole lot more lion pictures. lol

Our lion sighting continues.............

The two lions eventually decided that they needed a well deserved rest.

All this walking, drinking and affection is so very exhausting after all.

Image

A bit of a cat nap.

Image

But still alert and a bit of a snarl.

Image

Having had had their rest, the lions got up and carried on walking up the riverbed.

Image

All the time, they were being followed by this black backed jackal.
We still don’t know why it was following the lions, probably hoping for a snack. :-?

Image

The driver of this land rover was a bit nervous when one of the duo came over to inspect his car , but was really happy with the picture we mailed to him once we got home.

Image

We followed them for about 6 kilometres really enjoying seeing their comradeship

Image

I really enjoy this picture where they are in perfect symmetry O:V

Image

Image

Eventually the walked up onto a dune about 4 kilometres before Melkvlei, where they settled down, out of sight.

Over the moon with our morning luck, we carried on with our drive.

The Lion inspected the car... because it was parked on the grass 0'
and it's a "naughty" one, with the trademark ;-)

love the tenderly between the two brothers O/\

I think, we can cope with more photos of that sighting lol

More great photos! ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^

And to be honest... with a brand marked lion you can never be too nervous O**
Plus the fact that someone might (0!) your for rolling onto the verge of the road 0'

What else will we find?

Our plan for the morning, ultimately, after driving up to Melkvlei, was to head over the Lower Dune Road and to eventually go back to camp via Twee Rivieren

The Dune Road locals were out and about

A noisy Southern Black Korhaan was on the side of the road

Image

Image

And a shy Steenbok getting its mineral fix for the morning from the salts in the road

Image

We got to the Auob, and as it was still quite early, we went north towards Kamqua
Our first sighting once on the Auob side was of a pair of thick- knees hiding themselves, and their chicks under a bush.

Image

I wonder why they seem so much more interesting in the Kgalagadi as opposed to back home in Cape Town

Image

At Rooibrak we spotted yet another flat lion

Image

Leaving him to slumber on, we went up as far as Kamqua, looked at the empty hyena den, stretched our legs at the picnic site and turned around.
Just past Kamfersboom, a couple of cars on the side of the road heightened our awareness

On the far side of the riverbed, three cheetah, probably the same trio we had seen the other day had made another springbok kill, and were enjoying the fruits of their mother’s labour under a tree.

Image

Far away pictures with the subject in the shade

Image

Still a special sighting though

Image

Image

As we carried on after leaving the cheetah, two more flat lions were under a tree at Houmoed,
