Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife(Ezemvelo) has recaptured the eight lions that escaped from Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park (HiP).

Ezemvelo discovered late yesterday afternoon that three lioness and five cubs had escaped from HiP.Tracking began immediately and by sunset yesterday the escaped lions had not been recaptured.

Early this morning reports of lions sighting near Hlabisa were received and our Field Rangers started the process of recapturing them.A helicopter was used to aid the recapture process and all eight lions were safefy returned into the park by around 12:00 today.

So far Ezemvelo has received reports of three cows allegedly killed by the lions.An investigation conducted has confirmed that the cows were killed by the lions. Ezemvelo will compensate all the affected owners of the three cows within a month or so.

The Kruger lions have a thing or two to learn

Ja, Bruce, but our lions have to deal with the highways, taxis, buses, strikes, millions of people etc. And they don't escape, they flee, as other lions are trying to kill them inside! Not easy!

Stories appearing and questions being raised around these lions very worrying ,I have seen questions about this on another group as well... :

SA - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIONS in Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park?
W.A.R has sent a letter with questions to Park Manager Mr. Jabulani Ngubane regarding the recent outbreaks of lionesses and cubs as well as 2 male lions from Hluhluwe Imfolozi park. Sources have claimed that one or both of the lionesses and all cubs were shot.
As the South African people are taxpayers and thereby contribute to the maintenance, protection and upkeep of the park, joined by the Dutch and Swedish people who donated to the Postcode Lottery which supports parks in South Africa with substantial amounts of money, all of them are in fact employing the staff at the park and are therefore entitled to receive answers to any and all questions re the park.
We wait in anticipation the answers and report on these escapes.
