Media Release: SANParks announces date change for 2018 winter holidays bookings.
South African National Parks (SANParks) announced today that the holiday bookings for June and July 2018 will now open on 1 August 2017 as opposed to 25 July 2017 as originally planned.
This according to SANParks Head of Communications Janine Raftopoulos, who said the change of date to 1 August is due to a possible protected strike by some members of staff. “SANParks is still locked in talks with the union representing the majority of staff and a deadline has been set for Monday, 24 July 2017 to agree on a settlement and in anticipation of any disagreements between the two parties – a change of date had to be considered.”
SANParks, therefore would like to apologise to all guests for any inconvenience caused due to this unfortunate situation. “We want to give confidence to all guests that a resolution will be reached soon and all operations will be back to normal.”
The bookings will open on 1 August from 07h30 for the call centres and email bookings. Online bookings will open on 2 August 2016 as per usual.

Yes the 25th is tomorrow, but the bookings were opening tomorrow as they aren't anymore

Personally I'm upset that they aren't opening tomorrow because I may have actually got in for July 2018 then as plenty haven't followed the "new bookings opening timetable"

I am lost In any case I am not going to book anything, but good luck to the rest of you

SANParks strike sees delay for 2018 online booking season

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that holiday bookings for June and July 2018 will now open on 1 August 2017, as opposed to 25 July 2017 as originally planned.

The change of date is due to the strike action by some members of staff, according to SANParks Head of Communications Janine Raftopoulos.

The bookings will open on 1 August from 07:30 for the call centres and email bookings. Online bookings will open on 2 August 2016 as per usual.

“We want to give confidence to all guests that a resolution will be reached soon and all operations will be back to normal," says Raftopoulos.

On Wednesday 26 July SANParks was still in negotiations to resolve the salary dispute with the unions - with disruptive behaviour reported at certain camps in the Kruger National Park, specifically Orpen, Berg en Dal and Shingwedzi, and management has activated their contingency plans.

"We have seen disruptive behaviour at SANParks Head Office (Groenkloof), Phalaborwa and Orpen gates in the Kruger National Park. Management has requested the Union to immediately intervene; failing which, an application for an interdict will be lodged to stop unruly behaviour and seek adherence to the rules by HOSPERSA members” says Raftopoulos.

"Guests travelling to any of our parks should continue with their plans as we aim to ensure that they enjoy their stay," says Raftopoulos.

According to Raftopoulos, SANParks revised its offer to 6.1 percent plus 1 percent pay progression to qualifying employees, which totals to 7.1 percent.

“As management we were hopeful that the employees would accept the offer just like NEHAWU members did. We deem the offer as fair but unfortunately HOSPERSA members decided to withhold their labour which is their right, however we hope they will adhere to the picketing rules which were agreed to by both parties and are binding."
