God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Wow...here a bird, there a bird, everywhere a bird - incredible variety ^Q^ The knobbilled duck is striking, of course, I just wonder - what's the purpose of THAT thingy -O-

The tsessebe encounter was too funny =O: , except for the male :O^

I have never understood the purpose of the knob on the duck :-? Normally nature always has a reason for the most bizarre things, but this -O-

Nice pic of the hippos in three sizes \O

I guess it is simply to impress the ladies O**

Even saddle billed storks could be seen

Image

and same were foraging in the river relatively close to where we stood.

Image

Image

Further down the road a herd of buffaloes came across and same already had started to ran up the river bank.

Image

A very well hidden and very sleepy verraux's giant eagle owl we found in a tree

Image

but for sure the ever present waterbucks

Image

and even nyalas

Image

as well as more waterbucks came across as well.

Image

Mrs. Waterbuck came up from the river and I simply love the background in that shots as well

Image

and she even came closer and crossed the road.

In the shade of the many trees groups of baboons were lying on the ground and enjoyed the cool sand

Image

and some of them were even too lazy to stand up.

Image

The woodland kingfisher was the last animal we saw before we reached camp and as it was a long drive we decided to stay inside the camp for the rest of the day.

Image

We again got bungalow No. 70 and soon we started with an early braai and simply enjoyed the rest of the afternoon / evening on our verandah already knowing that these verandah evenings in the bush will soon be over for a longer time.

Saturday, 24. February 2018 - Shingwedzi

Roads we travelled along: H1-6 - S52 - H1-6 - S101 - H 1-7 - S50 - S134 - H1-6

Our last full day dawned but luckily it was one of those brighter days and on the junction with the H1-6 a hyena den appeared and to our delight two cute youngsters could be seen outside the den.

Image

Image

They were simply too cute and we even could photograph them close together.

Image

For sure we then stopped on the high water bridge across the Shingwedzi as the sun was about to rise

Image

but the colours in the sky were simply breathtaking that morning

Image

and indeed very special. We stayed in fact that long until those beautiful colours dispelled and we

Image

simply had to photograph into each direction in the riverbed and had no hurry in carrying on.

Image

Finally we returned to the hyena den and noted that they were still outside and

Image

only a bit further down the road we spotted two cute baby giraffes.

Image

to be continued…
