I have not seen them on sale in S.A. and would certainly enjoy eating one of the pips again one day.

but here is the thing.......
these remnants of dung can be found against the armco barriers at the lubyelubye bridge....
some sources say that hippos, when out grazing at night tend to mark off their territory by splashing/spreading their dung against a tree or on the river banks..
and that these are the examples of exactly that .......
all four barriers on both side of the bridge are marked with this dung.....
so maybe this hippo was also annoyed with the way people used the road around were he would graze
