what a superb "dark" Giraffe

Giraffe get darker as they get older. So the dark one is an old animal.
The giraffe in Pilanesburg are from Namibia originally. And these are apparently lighter in general than the other Southern African giraffes.

Somewhere I have read that it is a question of genetics?

I too love Pilanesberg. It's wonderful though how people differ. I love that drive from Kwa Maritane (obviously also love the camp) We have had a few lion sightings on that stretch of road, and also a couple of times saw brown hyena late afternoon on the way back to camp. Also saw my only Eland in the park on this road

Yup, if I lived where you do, I wouldn't go to Pilanesburg at all, you have Paradise on your door step!

A good friend of mine is a reuglar at KM too and he likes that road.
As we all know, game viewing is all about being at the right place at the right time. Am sure this road does produce some gems. But the way I see it, is that my time in the game reserve is limited (we typically stay for 3 nights). So I would rather do a drive that is going to maximise my viewing opportunity.
