So my trip to SA & Kruger is almost here
In 10 days time I will be travelling from Edenvale (Jhb) via the N12 and then the N4 through to Melalane.
What are the current road conditions like?
Roadworks / Stop-and-go on the route?
Tunnel or Schoemans Kloof?
Any input appreciated.
Thanks

Here is the number for TRAC Information, the managing agents of the N4: 0800872264
My Mom did Schoemanskloof on the way down last month, Dzombs, and it is a nightmare with the number of trucks coming from Lydenburg now!
She braved the stop and go on the Machado/tunnel side on the way back and it was quiet, but a 20min wait.
leachy should know the latest!

Re: Road Condtions - N12/N4
Dzombo I did the N4 Schoemanskloof from the R36 join to Nelspruit then up to Hazeyview last week . We found that section of road in fairly good condition (worst road is just after the toll booths where the trucks pull over ) and fortunately did not have too many Trucks on the road . I tend to stay away from any Stop and go as usually I end up there just as it shuts and end up waiting long ......

RP, Roger - thanks for the input.
I am inclined to go the Schoeman route.
I am travelling on a Sunday, so hopefully there will be less traffic???
And also, I would rather be travelling slowly then be not moving at all for a long period of time.

I see on News24 that there is protest action on the N4 at Machadodorp and that it has been closed

Ja, it was more off the N4 and they rubberise the protestors quite rapidly...it is political silly season.
Anyway, leachy is off to Kruger and says the trucks are on the Schoemanskloof road 24/7. There is one stop and go on the tunnel side, on the JHB side of the Kaapsehoop turnoff, and he suggests that (ironically if you take the Kaapsehoop road you come out at Brewers! )
I reckon do the tunnel side, (not necessarily including Kaapsehoop as there aren't stop/go's after that), but it is much of a muchness. (Remember, you may hit the stop-go open! )
One can phone TRAC, the highway people info line upon departure: 0800872264 (They are good and I know people there! )

Re: Road Condtions - N12/N4
So I did the tunnel both ways, to and from KNP.
Was ok, no probs. Relatively little general traffic.
No stop-and-go.
I did notice a marked increase in the number of mine lorries.
