Religious fanitism gets the worst out in people.
The point was not so much the kind of punishment but that even in such an ignorant part of the world they have understood how important wildlife = ecosystem is!

Irrespective of the nature of the crime that is to be punished, corporal punishment is forbidden by international law as it constitutes cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment contrary to article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and article 16 of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
Human rights are not negotiable. Where human rights, freedoms and dignity are protected, the conditions are right for prosperity, development and rule of law.

Corporal punishment in schools was stopped long ago, and it was made law a couple of weeks ago that you cannot smack your child.
