WATCH: How Rhino Orphans Return To The Wild In Hluhluwe-Imfolozi

What was once used as a temporary holding for rhinos being relocated at Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in KwaZulu-Natal, has now become a centre for rhino orphans who have lost their mothers predominantly to poaching.
Traveller24 had the opportunity to learn more about their introduction back into the wild from veteran wildlife vet, Dr David Cooper, who's been working with rhinos for decades.
When orphaned, this critically endangered species has little chance of surviving on their own, and when they get to the centre they are normally plagued by various health issues that need to be treated hands-on.
Once healthy enough to be left alone with other orphans, Cooper has a strict policy on limited interaction between rhinos and humans, as this makes the process of rewilding much smoother.
