I think that Puffie had a full belly ..perhaps if it was hungry it may have killed the scorpion.....

Yes Lis ..New Zealand has been battered badly . My daughter's garden is a total wreck but their home has survived. There is much devastation ...so sad .

Here are a few more snake images .

A cobra hunting along the Nossob Riverbed - just past Leeudril. We watched it for at least half an hour before it disappeared down a hole. I am surprised at the distance that it covered in that time. Because the vegetation had been burnt we were able to get good views of the snake...it was a beauty. :)

The next day we saw this sand snake in the road ( Fork-marked Sand Snake (Psammophis trinasalis) )
We were puzzled as to why it wasn't moving ...it's head was reared up and we are sure it was alive. We could see it had recently eaten ..we wondered if it was maybe still digesting the kill.???
This was seen just north of Kij Kij

Our last snake sighting took place at Melkvlei.
The Pale Chanting Goshawk gave the game away. I noticed that it was very interested in something on the ground. I crossed the road in order to get a closer look and yes the bird was interested in something alright ...a beautiful cobra. :) Unfortunately the snake disappeared and the award winning photo I was hoping to get of the Goshawk catching the snake never materialised.
I also found it quite funny that all the people at Melkvlei thought I was just watching a Goshawk and paid the sighting no heed .......when will people learn that watching birds does have some advantages

I love, really love (but that you already know) the Snakes and the Cape Cobra is a magnificent specimen,
normely Gowhaw are found with Honey Badger and BBJ, normely... but for you always something special shame it didn't stay
ready for more odd sightings
