Mabalingwe - December 2008

For my next "not trip report" trip report.

My daughter arrived in the world in December 2007. So there was no trip to SA at the end of 2007/ early 2008.

Our next trip to SA was in December 2008.

There had been a fire at Kwa Maritane during the year, and try as hard as I could, we could not get accomodation in Pilanesburg that year.
So we decided to give Mabalingwe a try for our annual wildlife experience.

There were 2 families, mine and my sisters, and we rented a big unit. The accommodation was fantastic for what we paid for it. Really good.
The wildlife....... pretty lousy.

We drove around for 2 days and all we say was impala and warthogs. Nothing else.
My son, who was 3 at the time was desperate to see an elephant, so on the last day, we did a game drive. One of the elephants was collared, and fortunately the guide was able to track them down.
Also, the guides have right of way on the next door game farm, and fortunately we saw a bit more there: Wildebeest, Zebra, Rhino and Kudu.

But all in all, I was not at all impressed.

RP, don't get your first comment?? :-?

We had a 10 sleeper unit, with 2 families staying there. So it didn't work out that expensive.

Thanks.
That wasn't our bungalow, but the next door one. In this section of units they are dotted about the bush. And there is no fence.

Agree, the bungalow is nicely situated. Bet the birding was better than the mammal watching?

Nice Cattle Egret. \O

Don't remember much about the birding.
A male Mcking Chat (I think) used to come and pick the fat off the braai in the morning.

Judging by your comments, I'll not put this park on my list, I guess...

But still, I too like your photos and appreciate the info a lot!
Thanks. \O

Thanks, Dzombo. Didn't know we had something on Mabalingwe already. :o0ps:

And I will not admit that it was even me who transferred that topic... 0-
I blame it on too many threads that had to be copied and pasted. //\0--
