Re: Kruger Accommodation Rates

Post by Bushcraft »

In September this year we are doing 4 nights in the EH huts at Lower Sabie, 4 nights in a GC6 family unit at Skukuza and 1 night at Biyamiti, so 4 nights communal ablutions and 5 nights with a toilet in the unit.

Family of 5 = R 23 285 for the above accommodation

Family Wild Card (We only use it in Kruger at the moment) = R1290

R25 per meal x 5 people x 3 meals a day = R375/day = R3375

R20 per day for drinks per person = R100/day = R900

4 tanks of petrol @ R1000 per tank (1 tank to get there, 2 in the park and 1 tank to get home) = R4000

Total = R 32 850

We used to do 3 x 10 day trips to Kruger a year, now due to the above, 1 trip is a push. :-(

What really needs to change in Kruger is the kids over 12 years old story as they are classed as adults which kills any family with payments as kids under 18 aren't working and paying their own way.

It is far too much for almost any family 0*\ You have even kept low the expenses for meals and drinks.

Me and Mrs Alf went to Kruger in 2009 for 21 days. Before we had small aliens. We stayed 7 nights in Bushveld camps. Other 14 nights all in bungalows with views in different camps. Accommodation cost us R14000 that time.

7 nights now in bushveld camps will cost a family of 2 about R 10 500. Then to book any bungalow with a view would about be R21 000 for 14 nights.

That’s a total of R35 000

What an increase

Next trip to the bush??

Let me think......................

I agree \O .
IMO , one should look at in perspective .
Rates have indeed increased considerably over the years , but , so has everything increased in costs , including salaries -- and in some cases even the sizes of their families have increased O**
But , consider you are on holiday .

Then , think about taking a holiday in another part of the world -- and what you are going to do during that holiday - be it just driving around , be part of a group of tourists , or visiting and viewing sceneries or museums .
Then , look at the prices you pay " on the other side "
Accommodation is horrifically expensive -- of course however , based on the value of our local currency .
A beer , or a hamburger costs an arm and a leg , and sometimes more
But are you grumbling about it ?
If yes , then maybe you should rather stay at home --- otherwise , just enjoy --if you pay for it , why not ;-)
