I make up a syrup from sugar and water , and colour it red with food colouring . The red attracts birds .

The birds cannot resist it , and they empty a bottle like that ( 750 ml ) within a day :-)

This morning, when I parked at church I heard the distinctive call of a Diderick Cuckoo close by. Looking up in the tree I was under there he/she was whistling away. Next moment two dark capped bulbuls chased it away. :-( :-(
Thanx STF!

But that is what happend here too, delighted with tie Diderick snapping some pics, the bulbuls chased it away...

okie, you are so lucky to have all those sunbirds. \O

I had to take our nectar feeder down last week because the bees found it and were climbing in the spout and drowning. :-(

Fb , give the bees their own feeder :O^ . I'm sure the birds will appreciate it ;-)

yeahh , everybody is so besotted with the nectar that I have to be careful not to give them too much . So , when the feeder I empty , I do not fill it immediately , but wait a day or two , otherwise they may become lazy , and forget to take nectar from flowers 0*\
It also seems to be a matter of thirst , and not only for the sweetness , because when the feeder is empty , then I see the sunbirds go and sip water from the nearby tap ;-)

Hope you catch the widowbird. \O
You are right Flutterby. My cousin always told us " Take your camera with you wherever you go - even to the toilet." How many good shots have I missed because I did not have a camera.

I have managed to get a few photos of the widowbird. O\/ O\/ O\/

Here is the White-winged Widowbird that we have seen in our garden over the past few days. Not the easiest of birds to photograph as they are very nervous.

And then he brought a friend along.
