These lions are suspected of having Bovine Tuberculosis - The one lion was in an emaciated condition and I had to put him down because he was clearly suffering. I performed a post mortem on him yesterday and he was riddled with TB. The others, in all probability also have TB but, they are still in good condition and may never actually develop clinical signs of the disease itself. We have sent blood samples off to Stellenbosch University TB Research Laboratory for analysis using a revolutionary new blood test for Bovine TB - These samples will contribute to the validation of this new test.

Yes, not a good situation. These lions were darted and blood samples were drawn here on Grietjie on Saturday.
Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.
