Fynbos

Post by Peter Betts »

I am blessed to live along theCape Coast where the Fynbos exists ..Many Aloes and Proteas are in Bloom at the moment as is the Heather. Yesterday I went with the PE Camera Club to Van Stadens Wild Flower Reserve to witness this splendour ..This is the King Protea

My mother used to have one of those brought back from SA to Switzerland. It was probably a dried one, but I don't know where it has ended up. Most likely became dust and thrown away ;-)

Lovely [O]

Peter, Very nice.

Another group of plants that I have tried growing here without much success 0*\

A few years ago, I bought about 10 Proteas (including cynaroides ) from a specialist nursery. About 60cm seedlings
Had them outdoors most of the year, and brought them into the greenhouse over the worst of the winter.
They did well for a few years, and then needed reoptting. I used a special acid based soil as advised by the nursery, but over the next 2 years or so I lost them all. Well I think I have one left that is sort of lingering
