Up till the late 80's that area was outside the camps fence - in the mid 80's my treat was to book the cottage at the end against the fence - the days of lanterns and a communal fridge , the entrance gate was in line with the straight tar from the camp exit towards Satara ... one drove through the southern parts of Timbavati on a rough dirt road through a few manned gates where you signed a register - I don't recall ever encountering other traffic - one had a wilderness experience the last hour before arriving at Orpen and the sole use of the road towards Satara untill traffic started arriving from inside the park .
Then towards the end of my stay in Aug 1985 we heard the graders as the new access road was prepared for tarring ... how the KNP has been ruined ...

It's the old "Gorge" camp, near the present day Olifants trails camp...
Wonder what it's used for now?

There is no trace whatsoever of the camp , in 1985 / 8 ? there were 1 or 3 poles still lying on the ground that according to the trails ranger had been left there when the camp was demolished .

You are heading North on a gravel road. On your way to the place in question you cross two low water bridges. These bridges are notorious lion ambushing sites of giraffes. After a short turn off to your left, you are there, with a windmill to the left, as well as a cement reservoir/dam. The trough has been closed as a result of a SANParks management decision. It does not really matter, as a big bush obstructs your view of the trough.
