The Pied Kingfisher -
Ceryle rudis
The only kingfisher in the area with an all black and white plumage. Common and one of the 3 most numerous kingfishers in the world.
Feeds on fish mainly but also invertebrates such as crabs and prawns and aquatic and terrestial insects.
Sexes are similar but Females have a single broad chest band while males have a second narrow chest band below the broad band.
Usually hunts by hovering above water and looking down before plunge-diving
