Thank you for your comments Heksie, Mel, Lisbeth, Richprins, Nan, Flutterby, Pumbaa & Pooky.
Heksie - Not sure where too next? Rainforest habitat has never really had the same appeal as wide open spaces and cooler climates, but the Pantanal looks interesting. We sat ashore for over 9 hours that day. We were with that little one most of that time.
Mel - His chances are good if he avoids the larger bears and if his mother taught him where to find food. They are most vulnerable as cubs - 30% die in their first year.
Lis - Their noses are highly developed and are far in advance of even a bloodhound for tracking down smells.
Nan - We got to see them do almost every bit of behaviour that bears do at this time of year.
RP - It was a glacial melt river - only just above freezing. Might have done you some good to soak in it. -O
Flutt's - He was a good looking animal, even with the Roman nose. -O
Pumbaa - The next one shows off a bit too.
Pooky - more of "Eyebrows" later in the TT. And even cuter little ones.

What is the good of having a nice house without a decent planet to put it on? (H D Thoreau)
As we sat watching, one of the bears passed us by as he headed downriver.
He decided that the time was right to do a spot of fishing.
The Salmon had only just started to run, so there were not many coming upriver. His method was to charge around and cause a commotion, hoping to spook one of the fish.
Which he would then pounce on with all his weight behind him.
Then charge on down the river after his fish.
When he lost it, he would stand up for a better look.
Following the fish as it turned back upriver.
Then plunging in again to resume the chase.
This went on for some time as he ran around hoping to get lucky.
Eventually he caught up with one and pounced.
Although it was only a smallish sized one which he wolfed down quickly.
Before licking his lips in satisfaction.
Unfortunately, he decided to give up fishing and headed back towards us.
