Identification
Streaking on breast fairly indistinct. Pale streaking on crown diagnostic.

Non-br Palearctic migrant, present Oct-Mar/Apr (latest May).

182. Greater Kestrel Falco rupicoloides

Identification
35 cm; sexes alike. Overall pale rufous colour with fine black streaks, spots and bars, upright stance with longish yellow legs and pale cream eyes diagnostic. No malar stripe present; in flight underwing coverts are white.
Juvenile: Eyes dark, body deeper rufous and with bolder black markings.

Identification
Male: Whitish cheeks, black throat and pink bill diagnostic. White outer feathers conspicuous. Some birds show yellow shoulder patch.
Female: Somewhat bulbul like; plain breast, no moustachial stripe.
Juvenile: Dark bill with yellowish underparts, and white outer tail feathers.
