Some Rarer Sightings

Addo has plenty of species which I'm yet to see, but here are a selection of some that you definitely don't see on every visit ;-)

Meerkat
There are at least 2 meerkat mobs within the park. This chap was part of a family around the Domkrag loop area.

Scrub Hare
A few of you will have seen these on the Addo webcam at night. The best chance of photographing them is very early morning - this was on the track up towards Carols Rest.

Yellow Mongoose
There's potential to see these anywhere in the park, but they're easy to miss being small. :-0

Eland
Perhaps it isn't so rare to see these magnificent animals in Addo, but they're often too far away to photograph. The Vukani Loop in the south of the park can be a great place to spot them if you're there 1st thing in the morning. IO

Steenbok
Until recently I hadn't come across these in Addo... but here's proof that they are there. And after spotting one, I saw another about 10 minutes later =O:

Bushpig
The best chance of seeing a bushpig is early in the morning as most of their activity is nocturnal. This one was in a small valley in the south of the park just past marker 30.

I consider myself lucky then that I have seen meerkat at Domkrag then. O/\ But it was a far off sighting. :O^

Agree on the eland on Vukani loop. Also in the late afternoons. \O

Steenbok are hard to spot. Only a far off sighting of one as well.

Bushpig, well, I don't even go there. :-0

Splendid photos again, PJL. O\/

Bat-Eared Fox is definitely a rare sighting for Addo nan. I've seen them on a night drive and only once in the distance in the day. Do post a pic if you have any \O
