Field Guide to Insects of South Africa (Mike Picker, ‎Charles Griffiths, ‎Alan Weaving) says:
Identification: Large (wingspan 24 mm), light orange, with black stripe along thorax, abdomen long and tapering, with row of brown spots on top. Femora of all legs with black barring. Wings shaded, especially towards tips.

Robber Fly, 3 posts up.

Thaks for the link, Toko. With 13 species and, once again, reproductive plumbing that requires scrutiny, I'll be happy with settling on the genus alone.

Further reading reveals that it must be of dubius species group due to distribution and within this group, only S. dubius has the yellow femora barred with black.

Well, done, reading further. It looked a bit daunting to me.
The specimen photographed does seem to be an exact match with the one in Picker et al.
Hence, I concur. S. dubius.
