BT on the trail of the mythical Pangolin

Day 3. Tuesday 20 May 2014. Tsendze.

Another beautiful day!

Something you only see in the Mopani area is aircraft contrails, the air corridor for flights over the Indian Ocean must pass overhead.



This morning we took the S48 Tsendze river loop and then went to the Makhadzi Picnic Spot.

Zebras can be nasty critters, I've seen footage of Zebs kicking a lost Wildebeest calf to death because it was making a noise and may have attracted predators!

Day 3 continued.

Just before we left for our afternoon drive, the SO called me over to look at "this funny Ant".


Which wasn't an Ant at all but an Ant-mimicking Spider (Myrmarachne natalica)!

We took a detour to Mopani Camp to phone my Dad who was having surgery the next day (all's well with him now!) At the pond on the corner of the H1 and the camp road were a few Woolynecked Storks.



Close to Mooiplaas Water Hole and LBR was on the sign-block looking decidedly ruffled!



Ngodzi was in attendance again along with a couple of others.



More contrails - X marks the spot!


And yet more buffs, very close and in superb light.






Plus passengers, Redbilled and Yellowbilled Oxpeckers.

Then it was back to camp but the day wasn't over. We'd been chatting to Rodgers earlier and we asked him to come and get us if he found any Owls.

He found these, a really rare sighting for us, Barred Owlets!
