Nobody really knows why kudu have some of the most extravagant horns in the animal kingdom? My guess would be that they are so successful, able to adapt to almost any environment, so natural selection has led to males having nothing better to do than growing intimidating ornamental horns? The horns are cumbersome and impractical...males have to bend their heads back when running through bush, for example.
The horns are not killing weapons, compared to those of a sable...although I would stay clear of them...
Also, occasionally, when two males fight the horns get entangled and both die, as per the Skukuza statue. This is not very bright evolution-wise?

Interestingly, as with many antelope, no two kudu have the same stripes, so you can ID them from year to year, if you want to!
