The S1 or Doispane Road starts at Phabeni gate and meets up with the H1-1 after 29 km. Doispane is a historical site 17 km north of Pretoriuskop and is one of the places where ranger Harry Wolhuter used to camp. The word Doispane is derived from the way a Tshongo person prounounced Dustbin.
The road offers all of the big 5 and also wild dogs. Phabeni Gate is one of the newer gates. We have left home at midnight on a few occasions to enter at Phabeni and have been rewarded by some wonderful sightings.
Looking forward to your tales and photos from this road

Not much of a story to tell, but a map section:
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Some film photos from the late eighties/mid nineties, before Phabeni gate was opened.

Re: Flavour of the Month - September 2014 - S1 Doispane Road
I did this road this past December.
Driving along, we came across a particularly agressive bull elephant plodding down the road, and charging cars that came too close.
Eventually I turned around and headed back to camp.
This wasn't far from where the elephant turned over the car a few days later.
I wonder if this was the same one?
