Continuing on South past the dam, something large and tawny slinked across the road. We noticed some vultures in nearby trees and concluded that a pride of Lions must have a kill deep in the bush somewhere.

A little further and not much to see, we turned around and headed back Northwards. No Lions were to be seen, but the vultures were still playing their waiting game.

A Goliath Heron was at the dam edge searching for a meal.

Image

Whilst a lone Impala ram watched us quietly.

Image

A family of Waterbuck were resting on the sands below.

Image

As we drove into one of the loops, I noticed a large blob in the trees. Closer inspection revealed a Verreaux's Eagle-owl snoozing the daylight hours away.

Image

Moving on, we found a Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill at the roadside picking up termites for lunch.

Image

Image

A quick peck to the ground would capture one of the little insects.

Image

Lifting the termite up by the tip of it's bill.

Image

Then a quick flip and down the hatch it went.

Image

Another stop at the hide only produced this Crested Barbet on sentry duty.

Before a roadblock stopped us in our tracks..........

Driving around a bend in the road, two cars were ahead watching a Lioness in the road.

Image

She appeared tired and we wondered if she had fed on the kill nearby and had visited the river for a drink after feeding?

Image

Image

After about 15 minutes, she got up and wandered into the bush in the direction of the kill.

We headed back to camp and chilled out for a while before heading out to the bridge to watch the sunset.

The vista was spectacular as usual, with the Gabar Goshawks hunting bats as soon as the sun had set.

Image

Image

A herd of Cape Buffalo made their way down to the water to drink.

Image

Then left in single file in front of the water.

Image

Image

Leaving a lone bull in the riverbed.

Image

We just stood there drinking in the spectacle and listening to the sounds of the bush.

:o0ps: I don't get to read TTs as regularly as I would like and am just catching up again.
But an enjoyable catch up for sure. Lovely photos again. The captures of the hornbill are
just fantastic and so are the sunset shots - ALL of them! ^Q^
Hope, someone is going to nominate some of them. O**
