For the past 4 months we have had a Kgalagadi Leopard Project camera trap up at the Rolletijes waterhole out in the dune field west of Houmoed. When we checked this camera trap 2 weeks ago we were amazed that within a few days of us putting the camera up we had a spotted visitor! We identified the cheetah in all the pictures as Albie. There was no evidence that he was with his sister or mum at the time of these photos.
Koka & Cub Tama
01/12/2014 - 6km east of Vaalpan on the Upper dune road at 16:30.
Whilst driving along the upper dune road Susie spotted this cheetah mother and small cub lying about 50m away under a tree. It was the cubs movement that gave them away. They seemed very conscious of the car even at this relatively far distance. Eventually they decided to get up and walk away. I cannot match the mother to any of the cheetahs that I know of so i thought I'd post it here for confirmation. My guess is that she is one of the cheetahs that lives out in the dunes. I will see if Margie knows her too.
