RP - doggies were certainly there. Probabaly my most captivating, frightening and disturbing sighting ever was along S7. The yelp of a wild dog brings it all back... the unexpected sadness and survival instinct of nature. I left the sighting too soon but I couldn't bear to stay. I'll post the tale in a wee while.

Great lion sighting Seiont!
We went looking for those doggies a couple of years back only to be told they'd moved out of the area two weeks before!

Right near the end of Seiont's video ride, one has the only opportunity of distantly seeing Mtshawu Dam as a tourist in Kruger....
It is a few km northeast of Shabeni, and one of the largest dams in the South, probably the biggest after Stolznek and Mhlanganzwane bit the dust....!

A very little-known fact is that Shabeni was one of the only tourists spots in Kruger where one could realistically stand a chance of seeing RED duiker!
Reintroducing animals which could have existed in Kruger in the past was all the rage in the 1980's and 90's...oribi, suni, grey rhebuck, Liechtenstein's, samango monkeys...
Some red duiker from the nearby Lowveld were released at Shabeni, and may presumably have been seen by tourists.
(I saw a tiny buck dashing across the road there while I was a student, and instantly convinced myself of this! )

The first time I took my family to experience KNP we had a great sighting of two huge male lions on the loop they walked right upto the Car with my very young sons in the back who were enthralled by the Big kitties

Never had such a big "klip" to spring on in his life!
