I think perhaps its an adaptation to the very orange colour of the ground in the Addo region. The colours are very rich in the park at the moment due to all the rain we've been having.

And yes, STF was very well behaved =O: =O:

Some very good news from the park this morning is that Josie was spotted with her cubs. It appears as though perhaps only 2 have survived but they are looking very strong and healthy. She's kept them very much hidden for a long time (they're 4 months old now) but I'm hoping that she'll start to be seen more regularly with them now.

STF is heading down to where they were seen... fingers crossed they stay in the same place for a while so they get to see the cubs :-0

The loss of babies is always sad... but rather two than none. ^Q^

Good luck in finding them, stf! \O And also PJL when you're in the park again. ;-)

On a recent trip we came across a nice size buffalo herd at Carols Rest. This chap was in the mood for a photo, whilst one of the youngsters listened attentively with his big ears

On our way to meeting up with steamtrainfan we spotted a bushbuck ram (in a bush of course). For once he didn't bolt immediately - they're normally very shy in Addo. This guy had a lot of flies over his face which didn't look too comfortable!

Nice little buff

I have the impression that they get accustomed to the insects, because they do not seem to be bothered -O-

I had a very quiet trip to the park the other morning. Everything seemed very calm - kind of the perfect setting for the lions to be out playing - but it was a different type of cat which surfaced. This caracal was checking the bushes for birds along the main southern access road O/\ O/\
