Re: Satara Rest Camp
Either that or you look into the back of another hut? When the circles were built there were lush lawns in the middle, a nice place to stretch your legs and relax...I like it!

Re: Satara Rest Camp
Me like my own space and privacy. Don't want my neighbors right on my doorstep like here in the concrete jungle
Next trip to the bush??

Re: Satara Rest Camp
It was one of my favourite camps as a youngster - my brother and I had such fun on those lush lawns with all the other kids, and one of the best parts of the day was getting back at night and talking to your neighbours about the day's sightings. Doesn't have quite the same feel anymore but I still like it!

I agree AlfAlf wrote:This camp for me were built without any imagination. All the bungalows face each other in a circle and when you stand at your braai you look straight into the next bungalow and you can see everyone else at the other bungalows
The chance of having a faulty neighbour also exponentially increases because all in the circle are effectively neighbours and there’s always 1 in the circle that can’t control himself or his kids
That said, I still enjoy the camp and the birds, squirrels, badgers, AWC, etc
Re: Satara Rest Camp
Always liked this camp , being central , lots to see around , and even the circles of bungalows have certain charm in itself . Unfortunately , it is becoming more and more commercialised , more unruly guests , and have become quite expensive , especially no longer offering pensioner's discounts , with the result that we more and more tend to leave out Satara from our visits A real pity
And , in addition , it seems that air-con units are no longer being serviced , together with other signs "decay " in this camp .

Re: Satara Rest Camp
Satara for me is like little Skukuza. You never get parking at the shop, when driving out early morning the cars overtake you as if your looking for parking because they are in a competition to see who can get to the S100 first
Next trip to the bush??

Re: Satara Rest Camp
I thin that 2 feet are enough to go to the shop
to be the first on the S100 is an absurdity
but maybe better to be the first... because of the dust

Re: Satara Rest Camp
Totally agree Alf ...We stayed at Satara for 2 weeks camping in Aug 2012 ..I was shooting pics for a client so admittedly I was cutting corners by going to Satara to get the shots..I was always at the gate at 05h10 and there were always the same 3 cars in front of me for the full 2 weeks!! ...cant WAIT to be a pensioner proper !! ...the rest of the long que arrived at 05h50 about ...but I enjoyed the carside chats as the day started to wake up ..I always told everyone in the line that I was going to get to a tree to take a sunrise along the S41/S90 so I went north and 400 cars went south to the S100 ..There was method in my madness...I was alone in prime game country. I arrived at the S100 Nwanedzi end at about 07h45 still in great light..The Satara Rally championship was already through long before and the terrified animals were calmed down again and I had the rising sun at my back..RULE no 1 in any photography.. the crowds had the sun in their faces ..I always plan a route and use the sun as my friend in the Golden light hoursAlf wrote:Satara for me is like little Skukuza. As a kid I loved driving up with my folks from Skukuza to Satara along the main road (UNTARRED in those days = epic journey. It was a quaint quiet camp then ) ..Today I usually stop at the shop en route from Balule /Maroela/Tamboti to Nwanedzi for breakfast or on the way home to those better camps to get ice
