Here are a few additional pics of Josie and her cubs. While watching them, the little ones caught sight of some warthog and went off to investigate - they are showing some great hunting instincts already. Josie looked tired but seemed to see it as a lesson opportunity so used the cubs as a diversion as she slipped around the hillside to approach the warthog from the other side. Unfortunately the hunt didn't end in success but it was great to see her hunting with the cubs sitting together watching the action unfold. O:V

As I said, the little ones are already honing their stalking techniques, and this girl decided to practise on mommy. This image is a sequence of photos overlaid to show her movement \O

Image

Another highlight of the day was seeing this ostrich busy with its courtship dance. The prospective lady didn't seem overly impressed so it didn't last long before he had to run off to catch up with her lol

Image

Also on Ngulube loop a jackal seemed very interested in something off to the side of the road, but then suddenly beat a hasty retreat as it realised the sheer size of the warthog it had been looking at

Image

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valour so off the jackal trotted before giving a yawn as if to say it was no big deal ^0^

Image

This very small bird (I think a Nedicky - will have to check later) sat just long enough for a quick pic

Image

Further along at the crossroads there was a small herd of zebra... one of which must have been very tired =O:

Thanks everyone for the comments \O

Driving into the north of the park I came across a number of flightless dung beetles which I wasn't really expecting as it was cold

Image

These piggies were having a good grooming session

Image

Close to Rooidam Melvin and Gibson were sleeping very soundly in the sunshine. The only moment of movement was when Gibson decided to use Melvin as a pillow lol

The lions weren't budging so I figured I'd head back south and see whether Josie & Co were still around. Along the main road I found a jackal chewing on the remains of a bushbuck

Image

A little while later some movement on a hillside caught my attention, and sure enough this chap came into view

Image

He seemed a little rattled, and following his gaze there was another blackie O/\ O/\

Image

Things started to get a bit interesting at this point as junior popped out from a bush O\/ O\/

Image

Here you can see the 3 rhino all in one shot

Image

On closer inspection, mommy rhino had a very impressive 2nd horn - I've never seen one so large on a blackie before O:V

Image

3 black rhinos all in one spot... wow what a sight. Oh no, hang on make that 4 as another one showed up as well ^Q^ O/\ O\/ 0-
