Never heard about an intermediate egret, but it sounds rather logical -O-

I'd never heard of it until I found it in the Sasol Birds book!

Here's what Wiki says about it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermediate_egret

My last posting before I depart for pastures Kruger :-0 I still have a couple of outings that I haven't processed yet so they will have to wait until I get back.

Following the late arrival on my last visit, I determined that I would try to get to Marievale a little earlier in future. This means I have to get up while it's still dark and involves taking our puppies out into the garden to make sure they 'do their thing' there and not on the floor.

On the morning of November 11 at zero-dark-48 I was greeted with an unusual sight; three planets and the Moon all in a line. I've tagged them in the second picture.

This visit more than made up for my last one with lots of bird activity and plenty of photo opportunities.

Wood Sandpiper.

Black Crake.

African Marsh Harrier.

A Dabchick with an enormous tadpole.
Image

Loads of Squacco Herons - there were five or six of them at the Hadeda Hide.

A new one for me, Blackheaded Gull!

Suddenly, all the birds scattered as an Osprey made a leisurely flypast.

A Purple Swamp Hen in flight - unusual to see and difficult to photograph!

Crowned Lapwing.

Back at the Hadeda Hide, the Whitethroated Swallows have a nest inside the hide!

The chicks reacted every time a flash went off!

Another unusual in flight subject - Blackcrowned Night Heron.

And lastly, another Squacco Heron with brunch.
