Oi! Another travel tale from Gavin with pix from Debbie O\/

Great start! Debbie definitely Looks comfy in your tent O:V

And good sightings to start off with! I like the martial, the puffy, the tawnies and of course the lions in a still green Kgalagadi :-)

Hope you brought me some cheetahs :-0

May 8: We do the Southern Triangle

We woke up on Mother’s Day to a calm and fresh morning after a night of wind and rain. Our tent had surprisingly done pretty well and was actually fairly dry as we got out of it first thing in the morning,

Our plan for the morning was to head up to Melkvlei, back track to Kij Kij, go over the Dune Road to Auchterlone, and then onto Twee Riveren and back to Rooiputs

We left camp just after 7am, and met the sunrise about 20 minutes later whilst on the road north to Kij Kij

We saw a few far off tawny eagles and jackal buzzards as we bounced along the way, and then, just after the Kij Kij waterhole I spotted this chap trying desperately to warm up after a horrible windy night.

Thanks everyone once again for all your comments and glad to have everyone along. ^Q^ ^Q^

Carrying on, as one does, just before we got to the Melkvlei picnic area we saw a few cars on the side of the road, which could only mean one thing.

The toilet break was going to have to wait O-/

The reason for the mini traffic jam was this couple posing in the flowers next to the road.

Not long after we arrived, the young male got up and started walking north in the direction of the waterhole

All the time during this sighting we had thunder and lightning in the distance, which was pretty awesome. O/\ O/\
(Note the threatening clouds in the background.)

Expectantly, we decided to go to the waterhole in the hope of seeing them drink.

This was not to be, as all they did was pose nicely for us

Before drifting off up over the dune right above the picnic area.
