We have seen them before here in the Czech Republic, but it was nice to see them in the mountains. The Citril Finch was a new bird for both of us, however!

Okay, so on a tip from our landlords, we walk a little ways up the Chluse Gorge and stop at the second road tunnel, a location that has been good for Wallcreeper (Mauerläufer/Tichodrome échelette). Within two minutes my wife spots one fluttering into a nest site with larvae in its bill, at which point its mate pops out and then flies off!

Easiest life bird ever!

Here is its habitat.

After spotting the Wallcreepers, we walked further towards the entrance to the Gasteretal. There was a Dipper (Wasseramsel/Cincle plongeur) with a juvenile in the stream.

Some flowers from the walk:

Rhododendron hirsutum

Kernera saxatilis

Pinguicula alpina
