9th Satara to Skukuza
We had to move back to Skukuza today so the normal car packing mission had to take place, however we were still out the gate at 6:15am and had no key to drop in the box which was a first.
Just outside Satara, at the first little bridge, we immediately hit a road block and I got a glimpse of a lion’s head before it disappeared in the grass, but we could still hear them roaring and the odd ellie was also shrieking which I found strange. Supposedly a few male lion had been seen and an ellie herd chased them.
I was pelican that we had just missed it and the gang was building, so decided to have a quick check on the H7 and at the very first no entry road behind camp a couple lionesses and cubs walked out. Another car which had been cruising along with us checked them also and went straight down the no entry road.
The cubs were very fat and cute so the clan in the back started with their “baby talk” as all of them crossed one by one in front of us before pausing with some of the adults, which allowed for a few more mission pics in the semi dark conditions.
I turned around and we headed down the H1-3 towards Skukuza, but stopped again a few hundred meters in as a BBJ was charging down the road; however it did eventually stop and check us out.
Albert started nagging as we neared the Baobab tree area, so I had to drive in for the usual pic and the S86 produced 2 male lion parking off next to the road, so we spent some time with them, but it’s a narrow little road so if there are more than 3 cars it gets hectic, therefore as an OSV drove in we ducked.
We then did the 3km down the S33 to check if the leopard from the previous day was still around, however it had moved on, but the Cow finally got her mongoose pic and another of a Bateleur in the distance.
To be continued
