With all this organizing our winter trip, I have the north of Botswana printed in my head, but when I asked if it was Chobe it was the other and I thought we were still there 0*\ must have missed something somewhere :o0ps:

A large herd of buffalo were crossing the river from the shore to the islands in mid river to graze. Something spooked them and they all stampeded back toward shore in panic.

They settled down eventually and some started to graze on the water plants.

We did not know it at the time, but at least 8 animals had died in the stampede. You would not believe that such carnage had just happened when viewing this apparently peacful scene.

We left them to graze and continued with our boat ride, but did catch up with some of them later. These ones had reached one of the islands and were busy grazing in the very last of the sunlight.

A small flock of white-faced whistling-ducks also gave us a fly by.

We then sat there enjoying the sunset before heading back to camp.

lol No worries Lis. I am jumping about quite a bit here. The other river we were at is the Khwai. As a heads up, we will go to the Zambezi in the next post. ;-)

Quite a lot of buffalos :shock: ..... then they got scared and there were 8 less :-( Beautiful scenery, though \O

Which sunset pic to choose :-? No. three I think :yes: They are all great and I love the ducks flying through ^Q^ ^Q^

it seems I was there, lot of "playas" along the river, even some little isles, with lot of Elephants, Bufaloes and so O/\ O/\ O/\

I'm seriously into colours... but... seeing so many buffs in one place AND getting a good photo of it tops even that 0:

The ellie family in the light of the setting sun has such atmoshere. Beautiful. (sigh... :-0 )
Also, the buffalo herd in the water pics are so evocative - so scenic. ^Q^ ^Q^
