I've been seeing this pair settling in across the way a few days now, and it's looking good that they may nest. There are usually Herring Gulls here, but this is the first time Lesser Black-backed Gulls have set up in the town, though there are good numbers of them breeding on the headlands nearby.

For an added bit of wildlife type trivia, anyone care to guess at what the names of the chimney pot caps are known as?]

Just stumbled across this thread and simply had to share this sighting of a bird which is not common here but escaped from several zoos and bird parks and now meanwhile has colonized themselves in the Northern part of Europe - The Mandarin Duck

We were very glad to find them and there were about 10 males "fighting" for the female in the second picture.

It was around zero degrees outside but they did not bother the cold

This was taken back in June at my weekend lake retreat. We first saw the pair of the great crested grebe building a nest right next to the boardwalk
at the start of Mai. A month later the family had grown. O:V

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.
