Struben Guest House - Skukuza (Staff Accommodation Crisis)

Post by Richprins »

This guest house has been closed for "renovation" for a while now, so unavailable to tourists. Yet a Kruger employee and family are confirmed to be living there.

This is not maybe the end of the world, but the guesthouse makes hundreds of thousands of rands income for SANParks every year from tourists, so a dangerous precedent being set, IMO.

There is currently a drastic shortage of accommodation for SP staff in Greater Skukuza, but this is not the way to go, and will get worse once work on the hotel starts.

On that note I wonder how often the director uses his guest house inside the staff village -O-

If i remember correctly it was a 4 bedroom house and in the yard there are a lady living there that cleans the house and her husband who looks after the garden.

Next trip to the bush??

Let me think......................

We drove past Struben's a few times this week at different times of the day and there was no activity there...looked empty to us. \O

But in the staff village there are at least 5 awaiting poachers still living there. One is driving with his official vehicle as traffic official from hazyview every day to his home. Yes..... He got a job while still getting paid from Sanparks as a traffic official in hazyview. AAND he is also a freelance guide for Safaris Direct.
