2016-07-27 Caster and 4 Cubs
Sighting and photos by Dieter Quoos
Between Geinab and Unions End at around 15:30.
After she crossed the road with her four cubs she started looking for food and saw a lonely springbok In the dry riverbed. Then she decided to hide the 4 cubs on the other side of the road in the deep bushes. After 45 minutes she came back without the cubs about 500 meters north of the point where she was disappearing with the cubs. She started to hunt the lonely springbok in the riverbed. She stalked a distance over 400 meter, but in 60 / 70 meters distance the Springbok noticed the cheetah and the hunt was abandoned.

Spot the 4 little faces.

Franco reported having seen only 3 cheetahs. Kapildev was missing here. But guests at Grootkolk said they had seen a single cheetah further north of Grootkolk.
Could be any of the cheetahs, could be Kapildev. We won't know that for sure.

Cub Swap between Corinne and Hanri

Post by Mel »

Still no ID on "my" cheetahs, but sad news again...

AstroMatt saw Corinne with all four cubs on the 14th close to Sitzas. The next day - the 15th - he saw her again with only 2 cubs. There is another sighting by BluTuna of her hunting close to Sitzas on that same day. Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3546807 ... 645474944/ Katydownunder saw Corinne and only two cubs again on the 17th. Link: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... 657&type=3

I guess, it's save to assume that Corinne lost two of her four cubs between the 14th and the 15th November 2016 :-(

Caster with her 4 Cubs
08/09/2016 at Nossob

There was a small herd of springbok in the middle of the river. All of a sudden mum came flying out of the bushes after a springbok. It was so quick. She killed a young springbok very close to the fence where the new chalets are being built. The workers made so much noise shout and yelling at her that once she had made her kill she walked off.
This was about 11am. She came back after 5pm when the workers had gone home. She dragged the springbok right across the river to the other side. Half way along the cubs were trying to help/hinder her. She was exhausted and lay in the shade for a long while. Next morning there was no sign of her or the kill. (Text by pooky)
