Aat&Elly:06-Mega story about the Mega Pride of the North (Part 1)

Post by aat »

*** Travel Tales ***
Trip to Kruger NP 2016 (October – November) New series of Stories

06 – Into the Mega Pride part 1

It’s time for a new story,

This is going to be a Mega story in different parts about the Mega Pride of the North

In the past we have seen big prides in the south and near Satara (27) but this was incredible.
Within 9 days we have seen this huge pride 3 times and 3 times with a kill.

Into the Pride because all 3 times we were in the middle of them, surrounded by lions from little cubs to older lionesses.
It was extra special because we never saw more than 2 other cars near the sightings.

Time to join us ? Please take your seats and I hope you enjoy it

Part 1 – 1st sighting October 25th 2016, close to Sirheni Bushcamp along the S56

We were driving on the S56 and just passed Sirheni Bushcamp. Small road and coming around one of the many “corners” we saw this.

Lions near the road and most of them lazy

Looking around we saw lions at several places at the LH and RH side of the small road so we took position and stopped the engine. We were in the middle of a large pride. Some of the lions were just a few meters from us, others a bit further away

-

-

Sitting and watching and listening….
Male around ? Yes there he is

-

-

It was impossible to make shots to capture them all together so I selected photos from them at different locations around us.

-

-

Lions of all different sizes from little cubs up to older ladies

-

-

Looking through the bush near the road we saw more and more lions

-

-

Many of them were laying down but also moving around like this cub , on the way to mommy

-

-

Suddenly Dad showed up and starting his socializing role with some of the lionesses.

-

And

-

-

For a while it was “quitet” with walking around so we started to count them. 34 in total and I already can tell you … next sighting it was even more …

-

-

One of the lionesses called her kids and walked to another tree to get some shade.

-

And …

-

-

Such a pride need a lot of food and as I said we found them 3 times with a kill
The kill was at the other side of the car so we turned to make some pictures of the leftovers with some cubs trying to find some meat.

A last shot of this first sighting with them

If you like to see and hear them alive…. Watch this video.

Will be continued with many more and spectacular photos

Thanks and hope you liked this part 1 of the story

I had quite a catch up to do, but it was worth it \O

Your painted dogs are marvelous and even if I am not a lion lover, your mega pride is something very special ^Q^ ^Q^
