Hello to all. I was "forced" to make a Flavour of The Month and after long thinking (1 second) I said yes and my choice is the H1-6 between Mopani and Shingwedzi.
-
-
Why this road?
- It's in Tusker-land
- Mopani was our first ever camp in Kruger about hundred years ago
- We have seen many specials / wonderful and unexpected sightings
I don't know exactly how to do this but will show some of these sightings over the years including some text about it.
Where to start ?
I will start from Mopani restcamp , turning left on the H-16 and first tree on the LH side:
It's 2010 and this was one of the many "weird / rare / crazy" sightings we had.
2 of the Big 5 together but an unusual combination of a Leopard and an Elephant bull. Both taking a nap (it was very very hot , I remember it was about 46 Celcius) The Leopard was in the tree to catch some wind and an Elephant bull thought...nice tree and nice place for a nap.
The Leopard:
-
-
The elephant just arrived
-
-
Leopard not really happy with new situation
-
-
This was the first sighting of many making the H1-6 special. and ... whatever / whenever you see something there are not many others around you like in the south.
Skipping a few years and move to 2015. Almost same position. Leopard was in same tree but came to visit me .. I was on the road just before the turn-off and this beauty walked under the road to the other side.
Could not be better...
-
-
and even closer...looking into his eyes
-
-
and just at the other side of the road
-
-
So this happened at the beginning of the H1-6 from Mopani....
Are you in for some more om this road ? and is this the way it should be done or ?

Still the beginning of the road, just outside Mopani near the junction:
It's November 2015 when we found these Roan, just at the RH side of the junction
