Sitting and enjoying the night air Jax and I had a conundrum to solve. When morning woke did we pack up and leave our camp, did we sit around and wait to see if anyone arrived or did we go out hunting and get back early in case someone else had arrived and booked into the site we were in.
We decided to sleep on it and make the decision the next morning.
Sleeping like the proverbial logs except for the occasional log sawing from both sides of the tent) morning was soon surrounding us. In all decency we decided to pack up and move camp - even if it meant we would have to repeat the performance the following morning and move back to where we were. It would not be fair on anyone who may have booked our current site and we did not want another altercation - after all we were in the wrong site.
We were in no hurry and slowly dumped all our goods and chattels onto any available space in and on the bakkie. We decided to wait until 10'0 clock which is the normal book-out time to drive our possessions to the new site.
With Jax clinging like a limpet on the tailgate, holding as much as she could so it did not go flying off, I drove down to our correct spot.Taking extreme care not to drive under any low hanging branches. Needless to say our "friends had not even packed up. We parked under a tree and waited patiently for them to get out.
Finally they disappeared into the distance and we could set up camp. Fortunately this doesn't take long and we were soon out on the road hoping for that amazing, once in a lifetime sighting.
To see one crimson breasted shrike (Do they have some funny new name?) is, in my life, always a pleasure. Deep under the tree we did not see one - but eight all milling around like a crowd at a month end sale. Unfortunately we were unable to get them all in one shot but we did manage to see what the gathering of the clan was all about. One of them had a snake and the others were intent on liberating him of his meal. Gang warfare amongst the birds.
(apologies for pic quality - but hopefully you can see the unfortunate reptile that was the rope in a tug-of war- between the gang members.)
Finally they disappeared behind some dead logs and trees and all we could see were flashes of crimson as the fight continued.
Time to move on and see what else was on offer.
We wended our way in the direction of the wild cat. We knew the area and approximate distance so we where hopeful it may still be in the general area. Yeah right - so much for our well laid plans. The grass was wrong. The tree was wrong. Not for love or money could we pin point where we had seen the cat. So much for getting an education when you cannot even get a simple distance correct. I can imagine the comments regarding our tracks - it looked as if we had been jockeying for position to see some big toothed predator.
Deciding we had had enough of messing about we drove in a single direction for some time. One again there were plenty of the usual KTP creatures. Then we noticed some movement that attracted our attention. This time it was a meeting of the office staff - only it did not look very friendly.

Pulling over we were soon transfixed by the antics of the five secretaries. Once again (for me) this was not a normal sighting. One or in pairs is more the norm for me - not five.

I am not sure what the bickering was all about but it was certainly entertaining - sometimes resulting in mid air entanglements.
As usual they managed to keep enough distance so that I was unable to get all five in one photo. After a good amount of time things seemed to settle down and they marched off into the distance.
The jackal that had been paying close attention to their antics lost interest and found something much more attractive to investigate.
Time to move off, once again to see what we could see.
We came across the remains of the lion kill and nothing goes to waste in nature. Someone was enjoying picking the bones.
