As we only left late for our afternoon drive we already were on our way back to camp but for sure we still had enough time for an arrow marked babbler

Image

and then my eye caught a bird which I wanted to see under all circumstances one day – a brubru

Image

another lifer for us

Image

and with that sighting we returned to camp, lit the braai and still sat quite a long time on our verandah reviewing the sightings we had on this wonderful and long day after we slept more than very well.

Sunday, 19. February 2017 – Satara

Roads we travelled along: H1-4 – H1-3 – S100 – S41 – S90 – H1-4 – H1-3 – H6 – S41 – S100 - H7 – S12 – S40

Our first full day in Satara is always leading us as first drive along the S100 although we already knew that the grass this year was exceptionally high due to our short fleeting visit yesterday evening but we really did not bother. First sighting was a group of giraffes having breakfast

Image

and then in fact it turned out to be very quiet as besides a Wahlberg eagle

Image

we did not see anything else and so in no time we were already paying Gudzani dam a visit which was as full as we have never seen it before especially and here I can only repeat me again after the horrible drought last year where in February everything was dry in that area so we stopped and enjoyed the surroundings with all the sounds and smells and soon discovered some noisy hippos in the water

Image

and a fish eagle sitting on the a branch close to the dam wall.

Image

For sure we had to capture this green paradise on picture already knowing that this was not our last visit to this dam this year.

Image

Next direction was then the S41 into the direction of N’wanetsi picnic spot and along that road we had the honour in meeting a beautiful paradise whydah who was busy in searching for some seeds on the ground.

Image

It was also here amazing to see that the both causeways we had to cross were full of water again and at the second one where you can drive some loops leading you closer to the N’wanetsi we met again a couple of little bee eaters which we in fact saw regularly during our previous visits at exactly that spot.

All of them were quite active but gladly always landed after catching some bees or flies

Image

at exactly the same branch where they started from so we had a great time in photographing them and we were all the time all alone with them but suddenly all of them flew away and did not return. What cuties they are!

Image

Along the road at a spot where the grass was not that high we even spotted relatively close to the road a kori

Image

and for sure stayed as long as same walked around that close.

Image

Here some impressions of how lush and green it was in that area – better to say in the entire park

Image

and we also met a couple of more butterflies and beautiful flowers.

Image

Today we only stopped shortly at N’wanesti picnic spot and drove back via the road we just came at one of the loops we simply had to capture that amazing tree

Image

and we were happy to come across such a beautiful waterbuck also extreme close to the road

Image

and he gladly stayed and offered us some nice poses.

Image

to be continued.....
