Saturday 26th August - Delaporte Day! continued...
At this point in time I have to tell a story. Its a story told only in words. And its a story of unfathomable stupidity.
So, if you are totally over the crazy antics of tourists in southern Kruger then I suggest you log out and come back to this TT in a few days time.
If however you find the unbelievable ignorance of certain visitors positively captivating, then grab some

because you are gonna love this story!
As the two Lionesses and their cubs settled down on the H10 for the evening our vehicle took up the left-hand position on the road. A small hatchback parked beside us in the middle, and then a Landcruiser took up the right-hand spot. It was now 5.45pm so with only 15 minutes until gate closing we were not concerned about blocking the road. We all switched off and just enjoyed the beautiful scene.
While immersed in this wonderful moment we suddenly became aware that there was quite the conversation going on between the driver of the hatchback and the passenger in the Landcruiser. As we enquired what was up we learned that the hatchback driver was seeking directions to Crocodile Bridge gate!

The lady in the Landcruiser was trying to tell him that with 10 minutes to gate closing he wasn't going to make Croc Bridge and needed to go to Lower Sabie and see what accomodation they had for the night. The foreign occupants of the hatchback seemed totally ignorant of the distance to Croc Bridge, the time that would take, and most importantly the fact that they were not allowed to be on the roads in Kruger after 6pm!
Our guide stepped at this point in and made it perfectly clear that they could not just drive to Croc Bridge now. They would have to go to Lower Sabie reception and request an escort car to lead them down to Croc Bridge, and this would cost them! They nodded the nod that leaves you convinced that they still don't understand the enormity of their stupidity, then continued to enjoy the Lion sighting.
This was too much for our guide, so she told them in no uncertain terms that they had to leave right now and drive to Lower Sabie to arrange the escort!
Still seemingly blissfully ignorant (at least if their facial expressions were anything to go by) they reversed out of their position, Performed a u-turn, then proceeded back towards Lower Sabie, followed shortly after by the Landcruiser.
We stayed with the Lions until the light was all but gone. It was so special being the only people there. Our guide asked if we would like to stay longer or move on, and we all agreed that we should now move on and see what else might be found. Leaving the Lions in peace we carried out our own u-turn, drove south and crossed the Sabie River, then stopped at the junction with the H4-2 - there were headlights coming from our right.
Two cars passed, one after the other, heading south on the H4-2. The first was unfamiliar to us, but the second was instantly recognisable. It was our 'friends' in the hatchback, following their escort to Croc Bridge!
