The birds are magnificent - laughing at the walrus. It's nearly like "huh - what's happening?"

The adult kittiwakes are beauties as well! :-)
Alas, they and the fulmars evaded me in Scotland.
Would have loved to see them as well.

Hilarious shots of the walrus. It does indeed look a bit slow to catch up with you. -O -O -O

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Your trip is so interesting, I find myself just saying wow, wow, wow.
Some beautiful pictures you took, and I agree with what all the mites say. Wow.
Loved the walrus too. :-)

Following the Walrus sighting, it was back to birding. The Ivory Gulls dropped down onto the ice to bathe in the melt pools and were joined by some of the Kittiwakes.

Other Kittiwakes were still giving us exceptional views alongside the ship and I marvelled at their clean looking appearance.

Not to be outdone, the Fulmars decided to put on a bit of a show as well.

Long sessions of scanning the ice to the horizon finally paid off when the shout came down from the bridge - BEAR AHEAD. I took a couple of pics with my mik-en-druk as we approached.

This male checked us out briefly.

Sniffing the air cautiously.

Before deciding that we were not worthy of his presence and made a hasty getaway over the ice.

On checking the photos I had taken, I was disappointed with the results and worried that I'd probably blown the opportunity of a lifetime to get some decent photos of the Bears. I consoled myself by returning to take even more photos of the birds that were following us through the ice......
