She approached the ship and sniffed about on the ice.
She sniffed the air, making sure that we were no threat.
This was more like it. I never dreamed I'd get this close to a Polar Bear in the wild. I had hoped for closer views than the ones we had had earlier in the trip, but this was mind blowing. What an experience to be up close with such a fantastic predator.
She posed nicely on the floe.
So I got my patent tongue filter out, but it was not working fully.
Then she came even closer.
Oh my word this was fabulous to watch. I'm certain that I was gibbering on like crazy, but cannot remember what I was going on about.
I was now in dreamland. Superlatives cannot explain what we were experiencing.
Eventually she lost interest in us and wandered off.
She went back into the water and gave us a farewell swim by.
What a sighting.
What an experience.
A once in a lifetime encounter?
Nope, not really. Little did we know that the next one was to be even more impressive.
