Groundhog Day: Pretoriuskop Over and Over Winters 2018-23

Post by Richprins »

For various reasons we have been repeat visitors to Pretoriuskop these last few weeks...I'm maybe going again this weekend! 0- lol

First was end July when Momprins came for a surprise visit to check up on me! O-/

Unfortunately we booked the coldest weekend of the year...but that made for very unusual cloud formations with the dry scenery that is my favourite, combined with the colours left after by the burns! ;-)

So plenty of scenery pics! :-0

We drove to Phabeni via the Numbi Road, a little-known secret as the road is of good quality and less hectic than the R40 at the right time of day. (Except for 500 speed bumps).

As normal disaster struck quite soon with Momprins' garage coffee all spilling out into her priceless handbag. But she does not sweat the small stuff and cleaning kept her busy for most of the trip! =O:

She was delighted to find that they sell coffee at Phabeni reception too, so restocked! O/\

Upon getting into the car she surreptitiously began spilling again so I had to start setting some ground rules, what can one do? O**

Albasini ruins with various Woolies snacks etc. Very rustig!

Most of the south had had their controlled burns already,so one side of the road at least was always burned, making visibility great! It is very dry anyway, quite unusual for PK!

Notice the smashing colours, red, black and giraffe! \O

To keep Momprins from misbehaving she had the task of taking notes about water levels, activity and cellphone reception at the waterpoints as we were researching and practising for the waterhole-sitting project! ..0..

She had a notebook that didi not have coffee on it and took it quite seriously, i must say. Up to a point then she became stroppy, but more later. 0*\

Nyamundwa dam with hippo only. Few animals drink in the cold windy weather.

And on down the S-3. Marvelous scenery, as said! 0'

The giraffe with the red leaves and the black stumps is a great composition ^Q^

Love your scenery pix too. Especially when it comes to sandy roads :-0

Garage coffee is a rather unique nickname for instant coffee lol

This time there was some action though, as vultures were busy with a hippo carcass in the corner! \O

I am sure 5 of them were Cape vultures - they were bigger, more orange and behaved dominantly! ^0^
