This tar road was built by the government for military and strategic reasons in the 1980s. It is not commonly traveled by tourists and passes through a dry yet picturesque area with few animals and no waterpoints, although virtually anything can be seen there if one is lucky. Over the years this has been Kruger's traditional stronghold for eland.
Bushpig also occur here.
To the south is an extension of the Soutpansberg mountain spurs that dominate the Luvhuvhu Gorge landscape, including Lanner Gorge and a private concession or two.

At the eastern end of the road the terrain becomes flatter as one enters the Luvhuvhu floodplain.
