The most telling thing for me is that most of them are not in uniform, and that other guests were not told what was happening. 0*\

A few years ago we were sitting at Renosterkoppies, when a Ranger arrived with some youngsters in civvies. The ranger informed everyone that was parked there that he had some American students with him who were going to set up a camera trap, and apologised for any inconvenience. That's when you know that everything is above board...not a group of people jumping out of a taxi and stuffing an impala in the back!! 0*\

Not in uniform
Not in a SANP liveried vehicle
Completely inappropriate vehicle (surely a backie would have been more suitable??)
No equipment with them.

Even if there is a hint of truth in this complete b s story, it's totally unprofessional at best.

There's a video on FB of an interview with Vet Wildlife Services Operations Coordinator, Noah Konaite. Unfortunately it's only FB.

He says that they are currently working in the Satara Area doing game captures and they ran out of food so he gave the guys permission to go and buy food. On their way back they saw the dead impala and were told it was hit by a car. And "as they are trained to do, they loaded it to take to the closest section ranger" for inspection. No post mortem was done, but they said it was long dead and it was road kill.

In that Jacaranda interview Phaahla says a post-mortem was done, and the guy with the green jacket was wearing his official jacket, "probably" with a kudu emblem... O**

He also says that it is their mandate to do post-mortems on dead animals to help in their analysis of roadkills, yet when questioned adds that sometimes they leave the carcasses, sometimes not...

In this case they could not return the carcass as there was a leopard around. 0*\

Yet the other release says they never had any idea there was a leopard, and that this was roadkill... =O:
