I have not seen this posted anywhere on the forum but above app which was released a few days ago appears to be a great resource for the Kruger visitor.
I have been following the postings on their facebook page for a while and my initial impressions of this app are very positive (I have not really had the chance to fully review or use it yet) Price seems reasonable (although the final price did increase with taxes to about R172) but the amount of information put together seem to more than justify this cost. Anyone else using this app yet?

I hope above does not sound to much like advertising - I have no link to the developer but thought I would share to get more opinions.

Just think what you missing - you need to rely on your own brain to be smart
As a reference guide for birds, reptiles, mammals and invertebrates it seems great. The maps and routes also seem to be up to date. I do not think it will replace reference books for comprehensive info yet but as a basic guide I think it will improve my trips. I hope the info is expanded even more as time goes by because that is the real strength of something like this. Overall I think this is a long overdue product as long as it works well when offline.

You'll end up being a slave of the APPs.
I know that sooner or later there will be a deadline and you simply cannot do without one. I am not going to get one before then

Looks interesting mikef.
Lis and RP, the problem with not going the smart phone route is that the technology is changing so quickly and if you don't keep up with it you may find it very difficult to use one when you need to. I just look at my dad, who never even learned to use a computer...he can't use a smart phone now, the technology is beyond him, and it does limit his contact with friends and family who are all on FB/Whatsapp/Email etc. Just my opinion.

Re: Kruger Explorer - App for Android or Apple
Do the networks still support non smart ("idiot" ) phones?
RP - you really should look into getting one.
You don't have to use it to chase sightings in Kruger.
Two areas where I find it very useful
First is map/navigation/traffic apps.
On numerous occasions I have been stuck in traffic and used my phone to find an alternative route.
Second is when I am at the shops.
If I see something I am keen on buying, I will look it up on the internet and see if there is a cheaper option elsewhere.
